Large College of Specialized Higher Learning - Staff O365 Migration with Co-existence

Profile: This major institution of specialized higher learning is the most highly regarded in its field. Maintaining 5 campuses around the world, this organization required a more flexible end-user friendly platform for staff and faculty productivity and collaboration. As with any organization that has been on a single platform for a long time, there was a great deal of comfort and familiarity with existing systems, and an inherent reluctance to move to something new, given the steep learning curve for senior staff.

Technical Challenge: Migrate 2,000 faculty and staff members from GroupWise to Office 365 while maintaining an active production environment utilizing co-existence, and providing a gradual migration with "white-glove" executive handoff.

Solution: CIS' Engineering team crafted a gradual migration solution, utilizing co-existence in order to provide a stable production environment for continued run of most users, while small groups were trained and migrated to the new Office 365 solution. To consolidate duties and enable more rapid execution, CIS worked with the client's IT staff in a "train the trainers" model, whereby CIS would train IT and IT would train individual groups of end-users. CIS provided the client with live on-site engineers for "white-glove" handoff service for end-users on the date of the go live for each group.

This demonstrates just one approach that CIS takes toward a large-scale migration of this nature. A more rapid cut-over approach is frequently possible, in the event that there are not numerous users to train and bring along gradually.
